The large mosaic depicting Marco Simoncelli welcomes visitors to
the new centre “Casa Marco Simoncelli” inaugurated yesterday
20 January 2019 on the birthday of the champion of motorcycling
who died in Malaysia in 2011.
Made entirely by hand with about 500,000 stones and smalti
tesseraes, the 48 square meter mosaic portrays Marco when
he won the world championship in Sepang in the 250 class in
2008. The perfect reproduction was possible thanks to the skill of
the artisans of our studio Project Arte Poli who, according to the
traditional technique of mosaic art, faithfully recreated the image
through the manual cutting and placement of each tessera and
reproduced every detail and the happy, confident and honest
expression on Marco’s face.
The day care centre for disabled people is at a few kilometres
from Coriano (Rimini) and was built with funds gathered over the
last 5 years by Marco Simoncelli Foundation and will be managed
by Monte Tauro Community.
